Built by
someone
who did it.
Handoff was started by a BPO operator, not a recruiter. That shows up in who we hire, how we train them, and why they stay — underpaid assistants leave in four months, ours don't leave.
Founder's note
I came
up on
the floor.
I didn't come to this from business school or a startup accelerator. I came from the operations floor — headset on, metrics on the wall, the same as everyone else on my row.
Nearly ten years in BPO. Long enough to work every side of it: the queue, the escalations, the quality scores, the workforce planning, the client reviews where someone flies in from head office and wants to know why handle time moved four seconds.
The part that changed how I think was who trained me. I came up under a CEO who had built and run operations for a Fortune 50 health insurer, one of the world's largest payroll and HR companies, and some of the biggest contact centres in the Philippines. Someone with genuine standards, who expected them from everyone around him.
He taught me what a real SOP looks like versus a document nobody opens. How you measure quality instead of performing it. How to build a team that doesn't burn out at month nine. And how to tell inside the first week whether someone is going to make it.
I also learned exactly what this industry does to the people doing the work. Bill the client well, pay the agent a fraction of it, run them hot, replace them when they break. It works commercially. That's precisely why almost everyone does it.
I'm building the company I'd have wanted to work for when I was on the floor. That's the whole thesis. It also happens to be why our clients keep their assistants.
So Handoff is small on purpose and picky on purpose. We pay above the local market and cap our own margin instead of the assistant's salary. We take on clients who treat the person as a teammate, and we turn away the ones who don't — that isn't principle for its own sake, it's what stops good people leaving.
I'm young and I'm in a hurry. I'd rather build something that's still standing in ten years than something that's big by Christmas.

How we're built
Four rules
we don't
bend.
Above-market pay, published
Every assistant knows their band and the ceiling. We cap our margin instead of their salary.
A ruthless acceptance rate
Five stages, real skills tests, reference calls. Most agencies screen for availability. We screen for judgement.
No body-shop scaling
We turn away work when we can't staff it well. Growth follows the bench, not the other way round.
Managers, not middlemen
Every account has a named ops lead who knows your workflows and answers on Slack, not a ticket queue.
The five gates
How the
few get in.
01 — Application screen
02 — Written communication test
03 — Role-specific skills assessment
04 — Live scenario interview
05 — References & background
People, not personas
Ops leads
Ex-BPO team leads and agency producers. They build your SOPs, run week one and stay reachable after.
Assistants
Average five years' experience. Accountants, ex-support leads, marketing coordinators, licensed transaction coordinators.
Training
A quarterly budget per person, plus an internal library covering the twenty tools clients ask for most.
